Time for an Adventure: My First Wyrd and Wonder

Just as the title says, I have signed up for my first ever frolic into Wyrd and Wonder. Now I usually stay away from challenges as they usually backfire for me and prevent me from reading, but seeing as this isn’t a “challenge” but more of the community coming together to talk and share book related fun I thought I could handle this. Also the best part is the focus is on my favorite subject, FANTASY!

I will mostly be taking part in the challenges through my Instagram Intotheheartwyld If you want to follow my picture taking responses you are more then welcome to!

Now I do have some books picked out for reading this month that fit the fantasy bill perfectly. I will also be putting up reviews for them here on the blog, so keep an eye out for them if you are interested in my thoughts, and don’t worry I’ll let you in on what books they are right now!

To start with I will be finishing up my first ever read through of The Chronicles of Prydain by Llyod Alexander. I never read these as a little girl and had only ever been familiar with the Disney movie “The Black Cauldron” As of typing this post I am almost finished with Taran Wanderer, which is book 4. Once I am done I will post a series review.

Next we have the Penric and Desdemona novella series by Lois McMaster Bujold. I came across these last year when my sister took me shopping for my birthday and couldn’t pass them up, the covers are just too gorgeous. I have been having an itch to read them and whats nice is each book is 3 stories collected in chronological order, so it will make for easy reading. I really hope I enjoy them!

And lastly we have The Riyria Revelations by Michael J. Sullivan. I have heard nothing but amazing remarks about this series and after doing some research I am super excited to meet Hadrian and Royce. This series just sounds like it is going to be so much fun!

Other than that I will also be finishing up my ARC of Sidewinders by Robert V.S Redick, and a few others but those are scif-fi so they don’t fit the fantasy bill haha. Now this is by no means a for sure list of reads, these are just what my brain is currently excited for so lets hope it stays that way!

  1. Welcome to the party! I grew up reading the Chronicles of Prydain, so I’m always intrigued to see what people who first encounter them as adults make of them (I still adore a reread, but I’ve got several decades of bias 😉 I’m intrigued to hear about Sidewinders too – I’ve read Redick’s debut (although I haven’t yet finished the series, I really need to get back to it).

    • Thanks I’m glad to be taking part!! I’m so mad at myself for not having read the Chronicles of Prydain as a child there is just so much that I know I would have loved about it (and frankly do now as an adult), but better late then never! I came across Redick’s Master Assassins by random chance last year on a really good deal, so it’s the only thing I have read from him, and right now I have…thoughts about Sidewinders, but I’m only 15% into it so anything can happen.

    • Glad to hear someone else has read them. I haven’t come across anyone who has even though it’s been around for awhile. I’m going to be starting them tomorrow so I am really looking forward to them.
